NIBAC Supports Extension of Illinois 53 in Lake County
The Northern Illinois Business Advocacy Coalition (NIBAC) representing Chambers of Commerce with over 7,000 members has issued a resolution supporting the extension of Rt. 53 in Lake County. NIBAC members operate businesses in Cook and Lake Counties and are concerned with major transportation issues in the State of Illinois.
While this extension has been delayed and debated for decades, traffic congestion on the roads in Northern Cook and Lake County has continued to grow worse. Lake County's antiquated, rural-based network of arterial roads and highways lacks the capacity to serve the current and future traffic demands of this growing region.
The NIBAC resolution supports the extension from the present terminus northward to IL 120, eastward to I-94, and westward to the intersection of US 12 and IL 120. It further urges all Municipal, Township, County, State, and Federal officials to support and implement planning and construction without further delay. This resolution also asks Governor Quinn to provide funding through his new capital expenditure initiatives and to act immediately so that meaningful action can help alleviate this transportation crisis.
NIBAC is a business advocacy organization that includes the following chambers of commerce: Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Hoffman Estates, Lake Zurich, Lincolnshire, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Wheeling/Prospect Heights and the Greater O'Hare Association.
